Many contend the atomic bombs were dropped to scare the Soviets. This view holds that the bomb was used to discourage the Soviet Union from expanding in Asia as well as in Europe. Communism is a form of government where the government controls all means of production and private property is very limited. Ninety percent of U.S. law is about private property, thus, Communism is a threat to the American way of life.
Should the United States have used the weapon to threaten another nation that was an ally? Was it justified in using it as a symbol of force and power? Why or Why not?

the bomb definitely struck fear, not just to the Soviets or Germans or Japanese, but the entire world. by dropping the bomb, the US showed that they are very advanced in technology of war and have the ability to mass murder any country that would want to go to war with them
ReplyDeleteDropping the bomb spared American lives and killed the enemy, Japan. No one complained when we air raided cities, but when they drop two bombs, everyone cries. I think we did the right thing. (SQJA)
ReplyDeletedropping the bombs, looking at a political point of view i believe was critical. I think america had to show that she was not just going to sit back and take what was going on. America had to show that we can "hold our own" and i believe that is exactly what we were trying to do.

I think that the dropping of the bomb should not have been used to frighten another country. It showed that we are not scared to use powerful weapons that are very destructive. I think the dropping of the bomb was a good idea.
ReplyDeleteYes, the US should have used a weapon to threaten another nation that was our ally because they could be trying to change and go to the axis powers. Yes, it was justified in using a weapon as a symbol of force and power because it would stop someone from attacking you.
ReplyDeletethe dropping of the atomic bomb should not have been used politically. i think that it shows that we are not willing to give diplomacy a try. yes the people on the opposing side weren't able to be trusted but we would look better politically if we tryed to talk about our problems like the civilized people we are. hostility shouldn't be used to make another country fear you. as a government you shouldn't want people to fear you at all. you should want other countries to respect you and look up to you, never fear you.

Politically, the bombing, was a good decision. I think that since they attacked us unknowingly, it was fair that we went after them. I dont think taking lives is justifiable, but it made it clear, US wasnt messing around anymore, esspeically since we were staying out of the war.
ReplyDeleteWell sence they bombed us first without us knowing i think it was a good "threat" and as bad as it sounds i would rather it happen to them then it happen to us again. we also saved alot of american lives and got japan back for what they deserved!

i dont agree that the use of violance is not the way to get other nations to be afraid of you. There are other methods to intimidate the enemy, such as psychological warfare, or propoganda methods, or these days with the internet you can spread false lies about another nation. Killing people or conducting false flag operations is not the only way.
ReplyDeleteThe bomb was not used politically because it was used as a scare tactic towards the Soviets. The dropping of the bomb proved that we were not going to give diplomacy a try. Either way the way I see it we dropped the bomb because we didn't care what happened to the civilians.

i think that it is justified to use the bomb anytime we want as long as the other country doesnt agree with us. if someone comes messing with america we need to show them that we mean business with a little atomic action. if we had just blown up afganistan and all those middle eastern countries we wouldnt be stuck in this stupid war that nobody want to be in for the last decade. blow up everyone who hates us. peace through atomic power is the only way
ReplyDeleteI think that the bombs should have been used politically to scare allied nations because the Japanese snuck an ambush on us and attacked unfairly without warning. This showed that they could not be trusted and that they had to be shown that we were not weak and would not sit still. Even though the dropping of the bomb WAS morally wrong, at the same time, I believe that it was somewhat necessary because we had to show the Japanese that we could not be threatened and that we were not a weak force to be meddled with. I believe that it was justified to use as a symbol of power to show that we were not weak.

the choice politically was not a good choice. i don't that we would like it if japan bombed us. killing poor lifes that didn't have anything to do with. if we bombed military bases with a much smaller bombed would have been enough to stop japan. -MBJA
ReplyDeleteI think that using the bomb as a scare tactic to another country was the right thing to do. And, it definitely showed a symbol of power and force. Using the bomb was power and having the Japanese surrender was kind of a force. But, every country has a huge group of people to protect. And, the US was not just going to let another country just come in a take over. And, possible cause harm to their people.
ReplyDeleteI think that we were justified in using the atomic bomb to show our strength. After the bomb was dropped, every country in the world could see what kind of hell could reign down on them if they mess with us. The soviets were a threat to us, but they like other countries realized that a new age of warfare was at hand and that we, the united states of america were the pioneers of it. LSJL
ReplyDeletei think that the bomb dropped stricly to end the war with japan and not to intimidate the soviet union.
ReplyDeleteThe bomb was only used to end the war with japan ad i dont think it was used to itimidate ad ally such as the soviet uio ad if it were the that was not a good reaso to drop the bomb just to itimidate an ally
ReplyDeletelpjc
yes i do thank we should have droped the bomb so that no other country would try to mess with the U.S. and also it ended the war with japan almost as soon as we droped it.

To use a bomb as an object to scare other nations is wrong. Even though the bomb would have been a good tactic in order to scare other nations, but I think that we should not use it and gain allies. Although some might just join because we have an extremely strong weapon, they wouldn't do anything to us and we would be better off. But to do it to an ally would be pointless considering that they are already on our side. And people knew already that we were a strong nation so there is no reason to do it for power. It would make us look weak defending ourselves with a weapon that could be used and then we would have nothing.
ReplyDeleteI think we didn't use the atomic bomb so much as to scare the Soviets. We wanted the war with Japan to end quickly, and the atomic bomb got the job done. But im sure that by us dropping an atomic bomb on Japan, sent a message to the Soviets big time. They realize the power that we have and that we probably have more atomic bombs.
ReplyDeletethe bomb scared many people, not just to the Soviets or Germans or Japanese, but the entire world. by dropping the bomb, the US showed that they are advanced in technology of war and have the ability to mass murder any country that would want
ReplyDeletethis bomb scared more then the one that it was pointed at it scared the whole word...but by them having and dropping this bomb they showed that they had power and advanced technology hey other countrys.
