Should We Have Dropped the Bomb--Militarily?

Many argue that the atomic bomb was used as an escalation of the bombs used in the previous attacks. Using a weapon for its use as a military objective would therefore, be justified. Knowing what you know about what the bomb did, how it affected people, and the other options available, should the bomb have been used as a military weapon? Why/Why Not?

  1. I think that we should have dropped the bomb militarily because it showed that we were not playing around. Also, the United States wanted the war to come to an end, and doing this would do so.

  2. as a military weapon i still think that there are better ways to handle that type of situation. completely wiping out an entire island of people isn't the right thing to do in my opinion. the US military completely destroyed japan and the people of japan. yes, what they did was wrong, but two wrongs do not make a right in any situation. that is why i think that different tactics should have been used instead of the atomic bomb.

  4. i think if the military knew that the bomb had have killed all of those people they wouldn't have done it. they might have tryed to make a smaller bomb, or just give more warnings. - MBJA

  7. I think that the bomb should have been used militarily, because even though the bomb caused extreme destruction and it greatly affected the Japanese, it was still justified-here's why: The Japanese began the war with an ambush(Pearl Harbor) and as we continued to fight, they would NOT surrender, and the bombs were used for that reason-to end the war with the Japanese in the quickest way possible so that no more American lives could be lost in the process. Even though it was a terrible, awful thing to do, it was the only quick way to end the war;therefore, it was justified.

  8. In response to 'vojw' we did not completely wipe out Japan. We only bombed two cities, in fact they were relatively small compaired to the other major cities in Japan. Also what other military tactics were avalible in 1945? Would you be willing to tell the 1 million dead american soldiers' mother that their son was killed?

  10. In ways the atombic bomb was helpful in defending ourselves from Japan though in other ways it was hazardeous in the outcome effects of tghe bomb. At that time the atomic bomb was very helpful in showing Japan that we are strong and won't be defeated.

  11. Yes. I think that the bomb should have been used as a military weapon. Because, a military weapon is a weapon used when you are at war. And, unfortunately yes they're were a lot of lives lost after the bombs were dropped. But, the US was already losing a lot of lives of their own. So dropping that bomb as a military weapon was right. And, top of that, the US gave the Japanese warnings about the bomb. And, the US were already using other military tactics to put an end the war. But, the Japanese didn't want to surrender. That's why I think that using the bomb as a military weapon was justified.

  12. I think the bomb should have been used as a military weapon. The dropping of the atomic bomb is directly related to the military. The success from dropping it saved many American lives and ended the war. It also established that America could kick anyones a.. anytime. So it was a military weapon. LSJL

  14. Through military means it seems right to have dropped the bomb but dropping the bomb is very cotroversial ad is still being debated today but it is estimated that if japan were to be ivaded it is estimated that the us would have suffered loses in the millions

  16. I think that by using the bomb as a military weapon, justified the use of using it to end the war. We knew the bomb would do some damage, but probably not that much. But Japan kind of had it coming to them. They attacked us without warning when they had no right to. So they have to expect the U.S to do something.
