Morality: normatively to refer to a code of conduct that, given specified conditions, would be put forward by all rational persons.
Morality is a basic set of principles of right and wrong.
Was Truman morally right to drop the bomb? Is it okay for any nation to wipe out a city--populated mainly by civilians and not military personnel--as a means to end a war? Why? Why not?

ReplyDeleteTruman had the right to use the bomb because it was a fool proof plan to end the war with Japan once and for all. Instead of invading the city with American troops and having some of those men die, he used the a-bomb and had no troops die
ReplyDeleteNo i don't thank that it was morally right because the people liveing in the city were not doing any thing wrong.

It was right to drop the bomb because it had to ake care of the people we were fighting against. It did have its down falls on the situation though by killing many civilians, but it was the right thing to do.-mlqj
ReplyDeleteIf we dropped the bomb there would be no moral way of dropping it. If we wanted to drop a bomb moraly we would of dropped a fire cracker on Hiroshima instead of an Hydrogen bomb....Just because we dropped it on a city that had civilians instead of military personnel doesn't mean we didn't strike fear into their military forces.
ReplyDeletei think that the droping of the a-bomb should have been droped in a more military basied area. but they say it was more civilians killed how did they know there were not as many military troops or leaders plaining on droping a bomb on us

I believe that it was totaly against the morality of doing something right by dropping the bomb on civilans. To have the power to end someones life is something the entire world is capably of, but actualy using that power for your own gain is wrong. But then again Truman did it to stop the blood shed. Killing more to save more. I still think it was wrong to do.
ReplyDeleteInorder to stop the war, i think it was the right chioce to drop it becuase the war would be done and over with.
ReplyDeleteI believe Truman was right to drop the a-bomb. It ended the war for good with Japan. Rather than sending in our men to finish the job, the a-bomb secured a victory and a closing to the war quickly and for good. Though it is missed up that inacent women and children got hurt, war isn't nice anyways.
ReplyDeleteTruman could have done many of other things to scare them away. Dropping the bomb in general if in reason couldnt be moral. There were many of civilians that died but rathen theirs than ours. It ended the war as we took out everything. It was the right thing to do but no it was not moral, as many people other than military guys had died.

i think Truman had a good reason to drop the bomb. Citizens die everyday because of the war so wiping out a city of inncoent people would probably end up being better because it ended the war so other innocent people wont die. Although bombing the city ended the war there might have been other ways to end the war without killing so many people.

the first comment posted is "its not right to wipe out a city with no reason..?" In what condition was our attack not justified? Was it "right" for them to attack us, with no forewarning? No, it wasnt. Their attack cost us a lot of American lives. Just as THEIR consequences to that attack. In my opinion they brought it among theirselves. And granted, it killed women and children. But how many women or children of ours did we loose? How many women cried themselves to sleep after hearing about the death of their husbands... and children?

Truman was and was not right to drop the bomb. He was right because he warned them before hand, but he was not right to drop it on civilians that were not involved in the war.
ReplyDeleteI do think that Truman was morally right to drop the atomic bomb because it was the only means to end war with japan then. Yes, it is ok to wipeout a city mainly populated with civilians because the cities that were destroyed were the most industrial. It was the only thing that we could do at the time to stop war with another country.
ReplyDeletethis a reply to "NMJD" about how truman could have done other things to scare them away? We didnt want to scare them away, we wanted to show japan that were not gonna sit back and take their attacks. What could we have possibly done to "scare them away?" sent our soldiers over there with scary masks on? rofl.

i think that it was morally wrong to drop the bomb because i dont think that destroying a whole city is the right thing to do. i think that truman had good intentions by droping the bomb, but he killed alot of innocennt people. no i dont think that it is okay for a nation to wipe out a city that has mostly civillians because those people didnt do anything wrong to be killed
ReplyDeleteMorally, i dont believe i could make that decision, because its someone life that your taking just instantly, and because of a war. your just putting yourself, at their level. i think it was must, they attacked so they needed a taste of their own medicine.
ReplyDeleteI think that Truman made the right chioce by dropping the bomb.becouse who knows what would of happen if we did not dropped the bomb. And by dropping the bomb it ended the war.

Morally, I believe that the dropping of the bombs was wrong. I believe this because even though it was the best way to end the war we killed several thousands of people, leaving the Japanese in absolute despair and destruction. The Japanese lived on the roads and so many innocent civilians were killed just to end the war. Even though the war had to come to an end, I don't believe that the killing of civilians is necessary in any situation.

It was not right to drop the bomb. Not only did it cause the death of many innocent people, but America got the reputation of pure murderers. America is supposed to be the nation for alot of third world countries look up to for help and guidance. If we just drop bombs on innocents then the violance around the world will never stop.
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't right for japan to just attack us, so they just got what they asked for. We gave warning at least. I really didn't like the choice that we made, but it happened so theres nothing that we can do now -MBJA
ReplyDeleteTruman's morally was not used in the dropping of the bomb because why would you drop a bomb on places with no military people? I know people die everyday during the war but there were other ways to end the war without increasing the civilian death rate. Moral was not the reason the bombs were dropped.
ReplyDelete-SLAX
morally this was the wrong thing to do. the united states doesn't have the right to wipe out a whole country of civilians. these people were not going to harm us because they didn't have the training. they were only civilians and we wiped them all out. as an american i am ashamed of what my country did to japan.i look at it as a time where the US did something very wrong and i don't believe that it was morally just to do a thing like that. i do understand that different people have different morals but you have to look at it from a stand point of are you going to be proud of your country for doing this, and i never will.
ReplyDelete--vjow
No, it certainley was not moral for Truman to drop the atomic bomb. In ways it wasn't right for Japan to attack us, it was immature and wrong though what our outcome of defense was just as worse. If we are gonna complain on them attacking us, they have the right on how we totally wiped out the city.
ReplyDeleteEither way i think that both the US and Japan were using wrong morals. Japan attacked us (Pearl Harbor) without warning, and killed a lot of the US own people. And, then the US went to Japan and killed their people. At the same time I don't think Truman was thinking about all the people getting killed due to the bomb. I think he just wanted the war to end. I think that using the bomb to end the war was a good thing. But, killing a lot of innocent people, whether if they are civilians or not was wrong morally.
ReplyDeleteeveryone knows that it wasn't right for trumer to drop a bomb but he did prove a point and i that might have been what i was going to take for the japins to stop...
